Sometimes, great things come in teenie packages. So, is it a surprise when I met Teenie and her mom, that I should be blown away by this super well rounded high school senior and the super mom behind her? On top of it all, they have the best sense of humor! I guess one may say you need that when you have a house of 4 children (all girls!).  Their vibrant personalities were such an inspiration behind this shoot. I can’t remember another time where I laughed and giggled as much as my clients did. So, it’s not hard to see how much joy we each received and that my friends, is priceless.

Teenie, the youngest of multiple siblings  is a kid every parent hopes their child will grow to be; outgoing, kind, thoughtful, smart, determined and humble.  She was in music theater, was also the school year book editor, homecoming queen and national honor student. Most of these I learned from mom because as I mentioned, she’s incredibly humble. Capturing her contagious smile was of no object, but what I also hope to have captured is this calm and amazing awareness this girl has, that seems almost beyond her years. Thank you Teenie and Michelle for a fantastic afternoon. Mom’s tears of joy when seeing the portraits says it all.

Do you have an amazing senior too that deserves the very best? Senior portraits that is an experience that uplift a person, not just another number amongst the crowd? If you want to learn more about why the Senior Portrait Experience at CYW Photography is the most sought after by families who want the best, please shoot me a message and I’m happy to send you more information.

Q: Aside from your family, who might be another person that heavily defined or mold the person you are today?

A: My dance teacher, Marie Stinnett because of her strict coaching (stern yet loving), it taught me to be a good planner – detail oriented, yet keeping a clear sight on the end goal.

Q: What advice can you share with other teens going through high school?

A: Don’t let “fitting in” be your motivator in school and keep a good work ethic. Don’t let the little things get you down. It’s all temporary and those who are your true friends will always be your friends.

Q: If you could do anything over again in high school, what would it be?

A: I would be more outgoing, try new things and reach out more to others.

It is always an honor when a parent trust me to work with their child who has never experienced being professionally photographed and even shies from the camera. Some photographers may find this a challenge but I find it a gift. If this National Merits honoree was going to trust me to provided her with an experience that ultimately lead to positive outlook of her self image, I wasn’t going to take it lightly. You see, for me, portrait photography is so much more than taking pictures of people, it’s an opportunity to honor the story that is unique to each individual.

Besides, how can you not love a family that serves tea and snacks on your initial meeting! Michelle is the youngest and mom wasn’t about to miss this last opportunity to capture her beautiful daughter who also happens  to be a national merits honored student at Los Gatos High School and bio/pre-med student in college. Mom wanted senior portraits that captures Michelle’s natural beauty and femininity while Michelle wanted portraits that captured her love of reading, her small obsession with Baymax and just being her quirky self . Write in Comments below and let us know which side of Michelle you enjoy and maybe can even relate too!

Serena is every bit her name describe – chilled and easy going personality with a heart of an angel. I mean what is more real than a girl who is not only outwardly beautiful but equally strong and follows through with her goals? She is the kind of friend you know will stick by your side through thick and thin. Having had the pleasure already working with her family and capturing her older sis a few years back, I was pleasantly surprise how different these girls are. It just goes to show that there really is not two kids alike and that is the beauty we should all embrace in ourselves. I remember distinctively even as I was planning with her sister then, how excited her sister was for Serena to have this experience down the road. Now, that’s what I call sisterly love. And true to our style of custom designing a shoot to each individual’s personality and style, Serena is quite different from her sister. Because her family also attended Los Gatos High School, we kept the tradition of photographing the girls at the school. Although the landscape of the school and what’s around it has shifted, the bond between Serena and her mom felt the same as when we photographed her sister and mom. I so adore that, no matter the test of time, the love between mothers and daughters seem to always remain the same. So yeah, we had a pretty fun time on the shoot and captured Serena’s bohemian style and spirit.

What’s your style? How have you evolved in your senior year? I love to hear your story and if you wish to have portraits that you will LOVE sharing now and have as heirlooms in your family forever, contact me and I’d be happy to send you our Senior Magazine detailing why the Senior Portrait Experience at CYW Photography is one that provides above and beyond senior portraits. Join our VIP List and see many more upcoming senior and what they are doing to highlight their year!

Q: How would you define beauty?

A: Something attractive but is different. Beauty is revealed when you take the time to get to know something/someone well enough to see what they are really made of.
