If you know Lindsay, you already know what an amazing human being this young lady is. And if you haven’t, I can tell you it’s not hard to spot her because she’s the one that lights up the room when she walks in. From her smile to her sweet demeanor, it’s immediate that Lindsay is not your ordinary 17 year old high school Senior. Since we’re talking about smile, can I just say I wasn’t sure what it would be like to ask Lindsay to relax her smile because Lindsay’s smile is so much a part of who she is. At last, I was able to also get some photos of that part of Lindsay that reflects just how thoughtful she is as a person. The focus and determination she’s proven time and again. I mean, what girl loves football so much that she plays with her winning school’s all boys football team?! Like I said, Lindsay is unique in all the most glorious ways possible and it has been an honor to capture her amazing story. And if you’re wondering, yes she’s always kept that gorgeous flow of blond hair even under her football helmet!

Sports, family, school, friends, she gives it her all in everything and it shows in the love that surrounds her. Have her immediate family there and seeing the awesome dynamics of her family gave me all the more joy and inspiration at her senior portraits shoot. Lindsay is the poster child of positive thinking and action and I am so proud to know and call this girl my friend. Lindsay, I wish you all the best at Texas A & M this Fall and I can hardly wait to for all the adventures ahead for you!

I know I say it all the time, but it’s true. I feel like the luckiest photographer for being able to meet not only the most amazing high school (and occasionally college) seniors, but the families behind these amazing young people. Naomi who grew up most of her life in Idaho has this wonderful deep rooted sense of family and it was quite clear viewing the sweet relationship she has with her mom and even their adorable King Charles Cavalier.  Naomi was already familiar with what lifestyle senior portraits are and was super excited for the CYW Senior Experience. You could also say that Naomi and mom, Amy were ahead of the curve because they knew to book in advance her senior portraits as they already witness just how quickly senior year passes. Good thing too because shortly after our initial Winter meeting, we booked out most of our Spring dates (we typically book sessions 2 to 3 months in advance due to the amount of planning and personalization involved).

Being that we met in the Winter, we had considered cooler weather outfits, but as Spring approached, Naomi, like most of us, was longing for a lighter palette and dreaming of pretty Spring pieces. She wasn’t quite certain on how to update her wardrobe so off we went to shop for what turned out to be very versatile pieces that she will enjoy now and through the Fall.  Given my background in fashion photography, it is always a joy helping my clients with wardrobe planning.  We took to shopping in the charming town of Los Gatos where we found some wonderful pieces at Francesca’s , J. Crew and Prim Boutique . Best of all, joining Naomi and myself on our shopping excursion was her sweet mom and grandma, who were so fun and supportive throughout the day. Admittedly, it was tough for me not to pull them away from shopping to take photos of these 3 beautiful generations of women! And on the day of our photo shoot, it couldn’t have been more perfect, with temperatures that day in the high 70s (compare to the much cooler temps we had been experiencing up until that very day).  It was an absolute perfect setting to show off all Naomi’s new Spring/Summer styles matched with her classic beauty in what culminated in an ultimate model experience.

I often get asked if I photograph high school or college senior boys and the answer is yes, we all deserve to have portraits that tell our story. Ones that you and your family want to treasure because they are a true reflection of the person you’ve put so much work into becoming. We all deserve to feel a sense of pride when we see our portraits (and not a generic pic devoid of who and how you or others see you). How often do we say that our children grown up too fast? This is that final stage and boys have their own unique stories to tell as much as girls.  So, if you’re wondering if boys enjoy the CYW Senior Portrait Experience, read on to see Albe’s session. He’s pretty easy on the eyes too…Not only does Albe channel a young J.F. Kennedy right down to his charm and smarts, but he has a tremendous story to share and one we can all learn from.

Here’s a bit of backstory too on how we designed his session around his individuality and my past experience having specialized  in working with male models and talents.  When I shared this with Albe, I waited for raised eyebrows and maybe even slight fear LOL   However, what ensue was an amazing collaboration between us in showcasing just how dynamic of a person he is. I discovered that he is an avid reader, coaches youth basketball and is a massive role model for his little brother. He carries with him a natural sense of entrepreneurship and it shows right down to his maturity in understanding that appearance and manners go a long way and that’s just one of the points that sets him ahead of the curve.  We had a blast incorporating his laidback personality, love of a good suit and intelligence beyond his years. I mean, what photographer doesn’t love a guy who’s just as comfortable in his tux as he is in his polo?

Albe, I wish you the best of luck as you head off to business school at USC, but I know luck has nothing to do with it when you’re as focus and hardworking as you are.  I’m so excited to see what’s in store for you and I have a feeling we’re all going see much more of you in the future!

Q: What was your experience like working with CYW Photography?

A: I loved it and would definitely recommend it to my younger brother, who is on the shyer side. What you created so so great because you get to discover different sides of yourself, step out of your comfort zone. I’m a big believer of diverse learning so you can find out what you’re made of.

Q: You lost your only parent less than 2 years ago, how did this shape the person you are today?

A: My Dad was a single parent raising me and it was tough losing him because he was an amazing role model to me, but I’m proud that I embody his values (hard working but knew to enjoy the important things in life). My situation gained me a maturity in caring for my brother and that in itself was a huge. I’m grateful today I have role models like the Krien’s family who have shown me genuine caring, generosity and acceptance.

Q: How would you define a “perfect day”?

A: Not having to set the alarm and sleeping in until whenever. Then a family breakfast and hanging out with my friends at the beach. Hmmm….I think I’ll plan for that next. (And he did by the way because that’s what he does – gets things done!)

San Francisco Bay Area Senior Portraits CYW Photograpy-2843 2847

Q: What’s one of the craziest things you’ve done in your Senior year?

A: Juicing cleansing for 2 weeks follow up with a Paleo diet. It was both fascinating and scary! (He inspired me to start juicing again!)

Bay Area Senior Portraits CYW Photography-3163

Q: If you had the ability, what is one thing you would like changed about high school?

A: Short sightedness by high schoolers. I wish there was less of the competitiveness in the system. It would also be great to see a more collaborative effort given as a team from teachers, students and parents. I think we can all  learned to take a step back and look at the big picture. One of the great lessons I learned from my Dad.
