It’s no wonder reports have dubbed millennials as the “giving generation”. Kira is a great example that millennials see their contributions as investments in a cause they care about instead of solely a donation. This girl is beyond the simply description of sweet and kind,  she like many other Los Gatos High School seniors I have worked with astounds me in how well she can multi task keeping up with the endless demands of being a part of student council, school work, and still getting into one of the best UC schools! Success: when you put your heart and brains into achieving what you believe. There’s nothing sweeter nor more beautiful.

Kira’s special beach session was that of a special place where she felt most at “home” with herself.  Having mom and her next best friend, Mango there made it all the more of an awesome day. I love her sense of simple monochromatic style and it lend perfectly to the beautiful beach light. What I really want to share is that which you may not see from her portraits alone; her selfless personality, drive to make a difference in the world for the better and her dedication to her family and friends. None of which she compromised in her busy senior year. Your “success” and confidence is what I love capturing for seniors and their parents, who are so much a part of this wonderful yet fleeting moment in life. Below are just a few favorites from Kira’s session.

Capture the amazing person you have become and treasure one of the greatest turning points in life.

I am by professional definition, a portrait photographer. Although I have photographed my fair share of events over the years, my knees still get weak like a child about to board her first roller coaster, when I am asked to shoot a wedding. It’s not the technical that trips me, but rather getting my head around the fact that this is one of the most important days in a person’s life.  I can whole heartedly say that  I am both honored and humbled that this family who permitted and insisted that I be their photographer for this truly amazing day in their lives. You see, this wasn’t just another wedding, it was the first formal step between two people who have truly waited to find the person they knew was out there for them. They didn’t settle, they didn’t wait, they found each other at the perfect time.

As mentioned, I won’t be calling myself a wedding photographer anytime soon (huge props to those who are dedicated ones), but what a complete joy it was spending the day with these two and their immediate love ones as they gathered at the San Francisco City Hall for their ceremony. They wanted something small and intimate and I couldn’t have picked a more beautiful place than this. If you didn’t know, civil ceremonies are very short at City Hall, but we managed to take in as much of it’s majesty as possible. If you ask me what was the most challenging part of covering this wedding, I would have to say definitely holding back my own tears as much was shed from joy that day. Their daughter even pulled off a surprise reception – oh my goodness the amazing speeches, you know the kind only your best friends who have seen you through your ups and down can give!!  Like I said, this was no ordinary wedding and I am beyond humbled to have had a small part in it.

p.s. Okay, maybe I could be convinced at covering sweet intimate weddings 🙂

Today and everyday I celebrate color. So to say Emily’s photo shoot was beyond magical is almost an understatement. The positive energy and creativity from both Emily and her mom really inspired me to create a super cute photo shoot for this real life princess. I mean seriously, this girl is a total muse for the next Disney princess! Her personality is as charming as her smile and when she told me she was traveling this past Summer to China for an ethic’s class she was in, I knew I just met someone truly remarkable. You know you’re in for a something special when your photo shoot includes your lifelong friend and a freshly painted mural! We thank Mike Borja (the city artist) for his kindness in allowing us to share in his talent before the paint was even dry! Talk about the perfect pairing!

In all honesty, these things “happen” more times than I can tell you because it’s truly in knowing a person whom I make the portraits for and from there, the “magic” happens. Learning what makes you smile, whether it be a cup of coffee or sparklers is one of my favorite parts of the CYW Photography’s senior portrait experience. If you too are wanting to capture the aura that is undeniably you in a moment that is all too fleeing, please read this and see how to beautifully preserve the wonderment of your final stage in your childhood. Although, you’ll always be your parent’s “baby”!

See Emily’s story and share with us which are your favorites from her shoot.
